The Loyalist Ulster Defence Association leader in the North has been arrested on the outskirts of Belfast city as part of a police operation.

Andre Shoukri was in a car with another man near the entrance to the Rathcoole estate on the Shore side when he was stopped this morning.

The PSNI say that a semi-automatic pistol and ammunition were recovered from the check.

Andre Shoukri was with a group of paramilitaries which met with Northern Secretary John Reid in July.
