SIPTU this afternoon succeeded in securing a High Court injunction preventing Irish Ferries from pushing ahead with its redundancy plan.

The injunction, which is valid until Wednesday, prevents the company from issuing redundancy packages to those who have not signed up yet.

Irish Ferries is seeking to replace 543 of its staff with cheap labour from Eastern Europe.

The company today rejected a second invitation to talks at the Labour Court.
