'Ongoing incident' at Scottish school after six reported hurt in shooting

Police were called to a Scottish secondary school today after it is understood an airgun was fired. It is understood that up to six people were injured.

Police were called to a Scottish secondary school today after it is understood an airgun was fired. It is understood that up to six people were injured.

Strathclyde Police said officers were sent to Auchinleck Academy in Ayrshire, near Kilmarnock, this afternoon.

A statement said: “There’s an ongoing incident at Auchinleck Academy. Officers are in attendance.”

Police did not comment on reports that five pupils had been injured in the incident at about 1.40pm, but East Ayrshire Council said medical attention was sought.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said that no one had been removed from the scene.

A statement from the local authority said: “The school responded immediately, informing the police and parents of the children involved, and sought appropriate medical attention.

“The council is working closely with the school to ensure that the school, the children and their families are appropriately supported.”
