Ahern defends appointments to State boards

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has defended the Government’s appointments to State boards following a television documentary that revealed many appointees had links with Fianna Fáil.

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has defended the Government’s appointments to State boards following a television documentary that revealed many appointees had links with Fianna Fáil.

Mr Ahern told the Dáil today that it was extremely difficult to get people to sit on such boards and said they receive little remuneration for the work they do.

He was responding to Opposition criticism of the appointments.
