Unions consider schoolbus strike

Shop stewards from SIPTU and the NBRU are due to meet today to decide whether to cancel tomorrow's planned strike action by part-time school bus drivers.

Shop stewards from SIPTU and the NBRU are due to meet today to decide whether to cancel tomorrow's planned strike action by part-time school bus drivers.

The strike threat by more than 200 drivers centres on pay and conditions at Bus Éireann.

Proposals put forward during talks at the Labour Relations Commission yesterday are due to be presented to shop stewards at the company today.

The NBRU has said it hopes to ballot its members on the proposals, which have not been made public.

SIPTU will decide whether to hold a ballot after consulting its shop stewards.

If the strike goes ahead, up to 14,000 schoolchildren around the country will be affected.
