Ireland's ports need to expand enormously over the next 10 years, according to a government report published today.

The report said the country would require additional seaport capacity of 12 million tonnes by 2014 to meet growing demand.

Speaking at the launch of the study today, Marine Minister Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher said: "[We're] victims of our own success. . .

"This is a result of the growth in the economy over the last number of years and independent assessments [show that] the economy will continue to grow at the rate of almost 5% per year over the next number of years."
