A group of 10 Pakistani students who were reported missing after enrolling at Waterford Institute of Technology have been traced, gardaí confirmed today.

Waterford Institute of Technology confirmed it was reviewing its policies following the disappearances of 10 students, who were part of a group admitted to the college in autumn of 2003.

Worries were recently raised after it was noted 10 of the students failed to show up for their classes.

However, gardaí confirmed the students’ locations were known to immigration officials as part of the temporary visa requirements.

A garda spokesman said: “There are hundreds and hundreds of students that come here every year, there are lots who do not complete their courses and many go on to other colleges.

“They don’t have to tell the college but they do have to tell immigration officials.”

Gardaí said many of the group of students were now enrolled with colleges in Dublin.
