Italian drinks company the Campari Group announced today it had purchased Barbero 1891 from Cantrell & Cochrane (C&C).
The acquisition is for 100% of Barbero 1891 and cost the Italian company, well known for its advertisements in the 1970s, €220m.
The acquired portfolio includes Aperol, Aperol Soda and Barbieri liqueurs in the spirits segment, and Mondoro and Enrico Serafino in the wines segment. The Frangelico brand will remain within the C&C Group.
According to financial information provided by C&C, expected net turnover for the sold subsidiary for the year ending February 2004 is around €55m, representing an increase of 10% on the previous year.
Irish company C&C is one of the largest manufacturers, marketers and distributors of branded beverages and snacks in Ireland and Northern Ireland with brands including Bulmers Cider, Ballygowan, Club Orange and Tayto crisps.
Headquartered in Dublin, the group employs approximately 2,000 people nationwide.
