A bomb blast at a market in the southern Philippines today killed at least five people, the police said.

Fifteen other people were injured and taken to hospital in Koronadal city, said police chief Superintendent Danilo Posadas.

He said an initial investigation indicated the bomb was fashioned from an 81 mm mortar.

“Terrorists did it,” he said.

The blast killed two women vendors and three passers-by at the local market, scene of a similar bombing last month that killed two people. Police and the military blamed that on the Muslim separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

The government has blamed the MILF for most of the bombins on the main southern island of Mindanao, including two blasts that killed 38 people in southern Davao city in March and April.
