The Minister for Social and Family Affairs has announced a doubling of grants to help people with hearing difficulties.

People who qualify for a grant will now receive a payment of €700 for one hearing aid and €1,400 for two.

Minister Mary Coughlan insisted that the increased funding would now allow people to access digital hearing aids much more easily.

The grant is available to people paying PRSI and their dependent spouses who meet certain contribution requirements.
