Bray Wanderers manager Pat Devlin has expressed his support for proposals that the eircom League’s Premier Division and First Division be merged next year.
The proposed merger would create a single division of 22 clubs instead of the existing system where 10 clubs play in the top flight and 12 in the First Division.
Devlin said yesterday that he believed such a move would help regenerate Irish soccer. He said an increased number of local derbies would boost attendance figures and help stabilise some of the smaller clubs in the short-term.
The proposed merger is due to be discussed at the eircom League’s AGM later this year.
