Galway ended the SHC qualifiers series with a 24-point hammering of Westmeath in Salthill.

Ger Farragher (1-06), Damien Hayes (1-03) and David Forde (1-02) shared out the goals as the Tribesmen secured second spot in Group A and a date with either Cork or Kilkenny in the quarter-finals.

Hayes’ 23rd-minute goal sent the hosts on their way to a 1-10 to 0-02 interval lead.

Westmeath substitute Barry Kennedy was given a straight red card before the break for lashing out at Ger Mahon.

Quick-fire goals from Farragher, from a 21-yard free, and Forde ended the game as a contest.
