Michael Kinane has until Monday evening to launch an appeal against a seven-day suspension which will rule him out of riding Johannesburg in the Kentucky Derby.

The Irishman was due to partner last season’s champion juvenile for his boss Aidan O’Brien in the big race on May 4 but that plan is in doubt after Kinane picked up the ban in the final race of Newmarket’s Craven Meeting.

American Jerry Bailey, who was due to ride Johannesburg’s stablemate Castle Gandolfo in the race, could now be the favourite to come in for the mount.
