The chief executive of the Chambers of Commerce of Ireland (CCI) today said the increase in the local government fund announced by Minister for the Environment Dick Roche still raises questions over the long-term funding of local authorities.
Speaking this afternoon, John Dunne said that while CCI welcomed any increase in the local government fund, yesterday’s announcement, which amounts to an increase of around €70m, was not enough.
"In percentage terms the proportion of the Local Government Fund provided by the exchequer has actually fallen in recent years," said Mr Dunne.
