The Mahon Tribunal has ruled that the taxpayer should pay the majority of expenses incurred by former government press secretary PJ Mara in relation to his appearances at the tribunal.

The tribunal ruled today that the State should pay all costs incurred by Mr Mara except those relating to a discovery order made in December 2000.

The tribunal’s second interim report found that Mr Mara failed to disclose a bank account as he was required to do under the December 2000 directive.

Mr Mara has already submitted an €80,000 bill to the Mahon Tribunal, but this does not include the fees charged by his lawyers.
