Federation look into Mourinho spat

Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is to be investigated by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) following last week‘s volatile Supercopa defeat to Barcelona.

The Portuguese coach was involved in an incident with Barcelona assistant coach Tito Vilanova, appearing to put his finger in his eye after grabbing his ear, as tempers became frayed following Marcelo‘s dismissal for a cynical foul on Cesc Fabregas.

Barcelona said yesterday that they would not be reporting Mourinho, but the RFEF have today intervened.

In a statement on their website they announced suspensions for Marcelo, David Villa (who was also sent off) and Mesut Ozil, as well as confirming they would be looking at the behaviour of Mourinho and Vilanova.

The statement read: “We will examine the images of the behaviour of Jose Mourinho and Franciso Vilanova, by performing behaviour that could be in violation of Article 98 and/or Article 100 of the code of disciplinary of the RFEF.”

The flashpoint was the latest in a string of unsavoury incidents between the two clubs since Mourinho arrived in Madrid last summer.

The double Champions League winner was constantly outspoken about Barca last season, while his side were reduced to 10 men in all but one of their five meetings throughout the campaign.

The tensions came to a head during the first leg of the sides’ Champions League semi-final, with Mourinho sent to the stands.
