A major new study has been published into the state of our primary education system.

The research entitled "Achieving quality in children's education" found equality in the classroom would only be achieved by the provision of proper state resources.

Independent researcher, Catherine Zappone, carried out the study for St Patrick's college and the educational disadvantage centre. Ms Zappone said the community also has a serious role in improving the system.

"There needs to be a lot more support for children who may have difficulty in school, the children talked a lot about getting more help from adults, both from their parents and teachers, on working on homework and that".
