The Simon Community has launched their Simon Week activities with TV3 presenter, Martin King, giving a 'Homeless Forecast'.

The Simon Community has launched their Simon Week activities with TV3 presenter, Martin King, giving a 'Homeless Forecast'.

Their campaign is asking members of the public to sign a letter to the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Tánaiste Joan Burton urging them to bring the homeless and housing crisis to the top of their agenda.

The group had earlier said that the Government's promise to end homelessness by the end of 2016

The Simon Community said: "Ireland is in the grip of a housing and homelessness crisis.

"Every day men, women and children have no place to call home. Thousands live in emergency accommodation nationwide and many hundreds more sleep rough or rely on the kindness of family and friends.

"We need to act now to ensure people who are homeless and those at risk have a roof over their heads. We need to change this grim forecast for the better."

The group have asked for people to share their video to increase awareness of the crisis and to log on to www.simonhomelessforecast.ie.
