Woman, 99, celebrates birthday by abseiling down tower block

A woman has celebrated her 99th birthday by abseiling down a tower block.

Doris Long saw in the milestone by doing her 13th major abseil, down Portsmouth University's 110ft Mercantile House in Hampshire, South England, since turning 85 years old, and she is now thought to be the oldest person ever to abseil.

She told The Portsmouth News: "It felt great, I certainly don't feel 99. I feel more about 60.

"The weather was good this time, it wasn't windy so I didn't swing around like a pendulum up there."
