An Army Bomb Disposal Team has made safe a viable explosive device in Co Donegal.

The incident happend in Carrigart near Milford this morning, and follows the discovery of two suspect devices in Downings and Kilmacrennan.

The Defence Forces unit was called to the scene by Gardaí shortly before 9am.

A cordon and road closures were put in place and a number of nearby houses were evacuated during the alert.

The suspect device, which was later confirmed as viable, was made safe without the need for a controlled explosion.
