Website aims to tap teenage retail market

A teenage website boasting the youngest joint managing directors in the UK is the latest addition to the e-tailing gold rush.

A teenage website boasting the youngest joint managing directors in the UK is the latest addition to the e-tailing gold rush.

Yorkshire-based Dubit.co.uk is the brainchild of nine Leeds youngsters aged from 11 to 17, and is set to tap into the lucrative teenage internet retail market, which is estimated to be worth £20b.

Dubit is a virtual 3-D city in which young people can navigate for entertainment, information and shopping.

Speaking exclusively to Ananova, Dubit confirm they're working with a major high street bank to develop a new debit card for teenagers to safely and securely buy goods over the internet.

The website will be launched on Monday by e-commerce minister Patricia Hewitt.

She says: "What these young people are in the process of achieving is extraordinary and it speaks volumes for their potential futures in the business world.

"They have spotted a gap in the market and have seized the opportunity to do something constructive about it."

Joint managing director Adam Hildreth, 15, says: "Because Dubit's board is made up of teenagers, we're able to steer clear of corporate cheese. We know what teenagers want and we won't compromise.

"That's why Dubit is such an attractive commercial proposition for banks, retailers and other organisations who want to reach young people. The potential is huge."
