The national executive of the Prison Officers Association has recommended acceptance of proposals aimed at resolving a long-running dispute over overtime.

The association is now due to ballot its members on the deal in the coming weeks.

The latest proposals, which follow 15 months of negotiations at the Labour Relations Commission, include a pay rise, a lump sum payment of almost €14,000 per prison officer and an increased overtime rate.

In return, the prison officers must agree to work a set number of overtime hours every year.
