Lynch out of Kerry clash

The Cork management have suffered a major blow in advance of tomorrow night’s crucial NFL clash with Kerry with the news that star defender Anthony Lynch has been ruled out.

The Naobh Abán clubman suffered a shoulder injury during the course of last Sunday’s league opener with Offaly and, although named in the side to face the Kingdom, he will not play.

His absence is another setback for Billy Morgan and his selectors with Lynch joining Nicholas Murphy, John Hayes and the entire Nemo Rangers contingent on the absentee list.

Hayes suffered a calf injury during a Sigerson Cup clash last Wednesday while the Nemo crew are unavailable due to All-Ireland club commitments.

The likely replacement for Lynch is Michael Prout, from Shamrocks, who impressed during the successful McGrath Cup campaign, but failed to make the starting 15 last weekend in Tullamore.

In attack it appears to be a straight fight between Daniel Goulding and Robert O’Mahony to replace Hayes.

Kerry selectors have named defender Eamon Fitzmaurice in their attack for the game.

He lined out at centre-back in the side’s one point defeat to Mayo but did not impress there and his positioning on the 40 now must represent a bit of a gamble by the management.

In the middle of the field, Kieran Donaghy will partner Darragh Ó Sé.

With both sides down two points from their opening assignments, this game takes on added significance as another defeat could have serious repercussions in terms of making the knockout stages.

The Naobh Abán v Nemo Rangers Kelleher Shield game will now take place in Innishannon at 2.30pm on Sunday.
