Toure: City players must respond

Defender Kolo Toure has called on Manchester City’s players to start taking more responsibility on the pitch.

Defender Kolo Toure has called on Manchester City’s players to start taking more responsibility on the pitch.

Manager Roberto Mancini is enduring a difficult time and coming under increasing pressure during his first full season at the club.

Back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and struggling Wolves on Saturday have raised questions about City’s ability to win a Champions League place.

They are now eight points behind leaders Chelsea after winning only five of their opening 10 league games.

Toure believes they must recover quickly and said: “We know we are a big team now. Everyone expects us to be at the top.

“We need to take more responsibility. When you play for one of the richest clubs in the world, you just need to deliver on the pitch.

“The criticism is good because that will makes us work harder.”

Toure told BBC Radio Manchester both players and the manager had their say following the defeat at Molineux, but denied there were rifts in the camp.

“No, not at all,” he said after Vincent Kompany and Emmanuel Adebayor had a heated argument during the Wolves game.

“We are a team and in any team there are problems. But the important thing is to try to resolve them in the dressing room and the training camp.”

City travel to face Lech Poznan on Thursday in the Europa League before meeting West Brom at The Hawthorns on Sunday.
