Dairygold Co-op is to target 1,000 job cuts over the next three years, it emerged today.
In his strongest warning yet, Co-op chief executive Jerry Henchy says unless costs are reduced in the short term, they will run out of time and be forced out of business.
The company and SIPTU negotiators are at present hammering out a voluntary redundancy package to shed 170 transport jobs - drivers involved in bulk milk haulage and general services.
Insiders say the company strategy is to cut about 1,000 net jobs over the next three years as a bottom line.
“To turn the loss-making business around and to safeguard its future, costs will have to be reduced across all areas of the business," Mr Henchy told the Evening Echo newspaper.
