The Cabinet has reportedly approved plans to make it easier for schools to expel and suspend disruptive pupils.
Reports this morning say ministers have agreed to amend the Education Act to ensure that the needs of the school community are given priority over the rights of individual students.
The move reportedly follows complaints from teachers and others that the current provisions in the legislation made it difficult to expel or suspend pupils who are disrupting the education of others.
This morning’s reports say the changes approved by the Cabinet are in line with the recommendations of a Government task force on student behaviour, which reported on the problem earlier this year.
