The challenges facing the Public Service in a more market-driven economy and the need to achieve improved quality of product is vital, according to the National Standards Authority of Ireland.
A one-day conference organised by the NSAI will hear speakers argue the national importance of the need to raise the standards in the Irish Public Service and identify some of the issues that need to be tackled to bring about this change for the good.
Dan Tierney, Chairman, NSAI said: "Raising the standards of quality in the public sector is a matter of vital importance to all of us.
"While the days of "us and them" may not be quite over in all parts of the public sector, those days are certainly numbered."
"There is evidence that a real and tangible commitment to the vital concept of a quality customer service is growing across the public sector and credit should be given for the progress that has been made," Tierney added.
The NSAI is a government body that provides a comprehensive product and management systems certification service and also works to establish confidence in trade measurements.
The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, will give the keynote and opening address at the conference next week.
