Convicted rapist Larry Murphy is due for release from prison today.
The 45-year-old from Baltinglass in Co. Wicklow is expected to be set free from Arbour Hill jail this morning.
His family have insisted that he won't be coming to live with them in Baltinglass.
Murphy will walk free from jail just 10-and-a-half years into a 15-year sentence for the violent sexual assault and attempted murder of a businesswoman in February 2000.
The 45-year-old - who kidnapped his victim in Carlow before repeatedly raping her in the Wicklow Mountains - was also a suspect in the disappearance of several young women in the 1990s.
The former carpenter refused to undergo any rehabilitation during his prison term and because he was sentenced before the Sex Offenders Act was passed in 2001 he is not subject to a post-release supervision order.
He can't be tagged and has seven days before he is required to notify gardaí of his address.
Locals in his native Baltinglass in Co. Wicklow are concerned about his release which the Prison Service has confirmed will take place today.
A public meeting has been organised for tonight in the nearby village of Grangecon.
A member of the Rape Crisis Centre will address the meeting in a bid to allay the concerns that women in the area have.
