In what appears to be a related incident, a mother of two, also aged 31, remains critical in hospital after she sustained serious head injuries in an assault at a house in Ballyleary, outside Cobh.

She was found in the garage of a bungalow.

Gardaí in Cork say a man fled the scene in a car.

A man's body was discovered in a car, hours later, submerged in the River Lee.

A post mortem examination is due to be carried out today.

Gardaí have ruled out foul play in his death.
