Sandy escapes Big Brother house

Big Brother’s Sandy Cumming today dramatically escaped from the house after saying he was bored with the experience.

Married Sandy, a personal shopper and stylist, had been due to leave by the back door at 7pm but he fled this morning, hours ahead of schedule.

A spokesman for Big Brother said: ‘‘He made his decision to leave yesterday and arrangements were put in place.

‘‘However, it seems at some point this morning he climbed on to the roof and indicated he was not prepared to stay any longer.

‘‘He is now with the production team, while we decide what to do with him.’’

The Scottish-born Londoner, who spent 14 years in the army before becoming a personal shopper, told his confidant Alex Sibley at 7.30pm last night that he had made up his mind to go.

A tearful and emotional Sandy said: ‘‘I m not getting anything out of it. As far as I’m concerned it’s come to the end for me.’’

Sandy, who described himself as ‘‘43 going on 16’’, becomes the second British contestant to walk out of the show and the first to ‘‘escape’’.

Trainee barrister Sunita Sharma, 25, was the first British contestant to leave when she walked out of the house nearly two weeks ago.

The show’s bosses now face the option of whether or not to replace him.

Sandy had earlier talked to Alex about why he wanted to leave the house.

As the pair chatted over a bottle of wine, Sandy said: ‘‘I’m 20 years older than most of the guys in there. It’s so tough. My mind is on a totally different planet to most of the guys in here.’’

He said the main reason was that he was bored in the house, saying his lifestyle just didn’t fit in with the rest on the show. ‘‘I get up too early and go to bed too early,’’ he said.

Of his resolve to leave, he said: ‘‘It was a massive decision to do this but it was right. I felt bad doing it. You feel like you have wasted your time.’’

Meanwhile, contestants Jonny Regan and Lee Davey were coming to terms with being nominated for eviction.

The pair, both on the ‘‘rich’’ side, each landed five votes, and viewers will now vote on who gets the boot on Friday.

Sandy and whining model Alex - who were at one stage at odds with all the others - picked up just three votes each.

This Friday’s eviction will be the third of the series.

Bookies have been in fear of betting stings and some had already suspended taking money on Lee after a surge in wagers.

Coral makes Lee the 1-5 favourite to be evicted on Friday with Jonny at 3-1.

Last week several firms were hit when there was a huge rise in the number of bets from punters who thought Alison would be the next out of the house, which she proved to be.

Alex, once the outsider, today saw a flood of bets which shortened his odds of winning the contest from 50/1 to 7/1, according to bookmaker William Hill, while Spencer is favourite to be the last contestant left in the house.
