Enterprise Minister Micheál Martin has said there are a number of issues that need to be examined in relation to Ryanair's bid to take over Aer Lingus.
Ryanair announced today that it had already acquired 16% of shares in Aer Lingus and was seeking to buy the remainder for €2.80 each.
The Government says it will not be selling its shares in the airline and is committed to competition in the aviation sector.
Asked about the matter in Cork, Mr Martin declined to say if he would be asking the Competition Authority to look into the situation.
"Obviously, there'll be a number of issues surrounding it," he said. "We'll see what unfolds."
