Government ministers have decided to defer their recently recommended pay rises for one year.

The decision was agreed at this morning's meeting of the cabinet.

An independent body had recommended rises for Ministers, senior civil servants, and bosses of government agencies.

The report had recommended a pay rise of €38,000 for the Taoiseach.
