Poll shows seven-point jump for Labour

There is a massive surge in support for the Labour Party at the expense of all others bar the Greens, according to a new opinion poll.

The RED C survey for tomorrow's Sunday Business Post sees Eamon Gilmore's party jump a massive seven points.

At 24% Labour takes second place for the first time in the Red C tracking poll.

The party does even better in the capital where it is the most popular, attracting one in three voters.

The only other winner in this poll is a one-point increase in support for the Greens to 6%.

Sinn Fein suffers the biggest drop - down 4 points to 6%, Fine Gael loses 2 to 33% and Fianna Fáil drops 1 to 23% - leaving it third for the first time ever in this poll.

Independents and others also drop 1 to 8%.

If these numbers were to be replicated in a General Election - FF would lose more than 30 seats, while Labour would more than double their current Dáil standing.

In fact only half of those who voted FF in 2007 now say they support the party.
