Dundalk Club pro Leslie Walker snatched the PGA Ulster Open Championship title from defending champion John Dwyer at The Hilton Templepatrick after a four holes shootout..

Walker and Dwyer both finished the 36 holes at five-under-par 137 with Walker carding a 69 to playing partner Dwyer's 68 after the pair and Damian Mooney had been neck and neck over the closing 18 holes.

The trio were four-under for most of the back nine action but Walker and Dwyer (Ashbourne) nosed ahead with a pair of birdie fours at the 16th hole with Mooney (Laganview) carding three straight pars to finish.

The first and 18th holes were used for the sudden-death play-off with the first three extra holes shared in par. At the 18th second time round, Dwyer left his approach 15 feet to the left of the flag before Walker rifled a super nine iron from wide on the right to one foot past the pin.

The holder's magnificent effort for birdie stopped stone dead and left Walker with a tap in for a birdie and the title.

"I feel just fantastic at winning," enthused Walker (33), the former British Boys' champion. "The only other things I have won this season are a few pro-ams. It was tough keeping up with John as he is playing very well at present."

Dwyer made a great recovery at the last hole to force the play-off. His tee-shot landed in water and he had to drop out under penalty but then rifled a brilliant six iron to three feet and holed to save his par.

He never dropped a shot during his round and made three birdies.

Walker pencilled in four birdies but also made two bogeys.

Mooney with six birdies and Stephen Hamill, with seven shared the best round of the day - a four-under-par 67.
