British police tonight launched a murder investigation after a man’s head was discovered in a recreation ground.

British police tonight launched a murder investigation after a man’s head was discovered in a recreation ground.

Hampshire Police said the head was found in the Basingstoke, Hants, but the body had not yet been located.

Police received a call from a member of the public who discovered the head at about 2pm today, a spokeswoman said.

A spokeswoman said: ‘‘The head, that of a male, was recovered in the Southam area of Basingstoke. A body has not been located.

‘‘We have also identified a premises which we intend to search. At this stage we are treating this as a murder inquiry.’’
