Irish Rail: PD figures on trains incorrect

Iarnrod Eireann has come out this afternoon to defend the punctuality of its trains.

Iarnrod Eireann has come out this afternoon to defend the punctuality of its trains.

The rail company says that figures show that 90% of their passengers say they are happy with the service.

The comments come after the Progressive Democrats senator Tom Morrissey revealed today that four out of every ten trains travelling from Maynooth to Dublin are late.

In addition, Mr Morrissey claims that two out of every ten DARTs are late as well.

However, Iarnrod Eireann spokesperson Barry Kenny says the PD senator has the figures wrong.

He says that the PD figures are based upon a short period in December but that Irish Rail figures are reported every quarter.

Mr Kenny insists the DART service has been shown to have a 93% punctuality rate and the commuter service has had a 90% punctuality rate.
