Fine Gael has called on Education Minister Noel Dempsey to clarify whether he intends to establish a multi-annual school building programme.

Party spokesperson Olwyn Enright said Mr Dempsey had repeatedly claimed that he was in talks with the Finance Minister to secure funding for the programme, but no developments have been reported.

Ms Enright said the Education Minister’s failure to clarify the situation had left many schools in a state of uncertainty heading into the new term.
