A senior medical consultant has called on the Government to deliver an extension of BreastCheck.

Dr John Kennedy says that Michael Martin must extend the national breast screening programme.

Dr Kennedy made his comments at the launch of the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer awareness project today.

More than 50 breast cancer survivors attended the launch.

The cancer project insisted women must be more aware of the disease and if they sense any problems they must visit their GP immediately.

The Action Breast Campaign are now also operating a mobile information unit for women.

People can contact the group on the helpline 1800-30-90-40.
