Research conducted by a firm that runs study skills courses throughout the country has reportedly found that an unprecedented number of second-level students are receiving private grinds.

Reports this morning said the survey by Student Enrichment Services found that 70% of Leaving Cert students were receiving grinds.

It also found that one quarter of all first and second-year students were taking grinds, even though they had no state exams to sit.

The most popular subjects for extra tuition were found to be maths, French, English and Irish.

More than 1,000 second-level students were questioned as part of the survey.
