A footballer has been found hanged after being given a six-month ban from the game.
Craig Deans' body was found beside the turnstiles of his former club where he planned to return to next season.
He was banned by the Scottish Amateur Football Association for playing in an amateur competition while suspended.
The 24-year-old's body was found in his hometown of Hawick where he used to play for Hawick Royal Albert FC.
Mr Deans had moved to a club called Hawick Waverley taking an earlier suspension with him and accidentally played in a cup tie.
He had thought his ban ran over a set number of weeks but in fact it ran over a set number of games.
His younger brother told the Daily Record: "Craig was absolutely stunned. You get a six-month ban for head-butting someone and yet he got it for what was a genuine and honest mistake."
The Border Amateur FA says a two-year sentence could have been imposed and the fact it wasn't meant the association accepted his version of events.
