Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy has remained tight-lipped on suggestions he is planning to introduce a savings scheme for first-time home-buyers.

Reported suggested the minister was planning something similar to the controversial 'special savings scheme' to make up for his abolition of the first-time buyers' grant last year.

Speaking in Dublin today, Mr McCreevy said he had not made any decisions on what measures would be included in this year's budget.

The minister also said he would not make extra money available to the Department of Health to help resolve the public health doctors' strike, which entered its third week this week.
