O’Driscoll, whose three tries were the highlight of Ireland’s first victory in Paris in 28 years last season, said: ‘‘It’s great to be back, and I’m relieved that the injury has cleared up so well.

‘‘It won’t be an easy match, but I’m looking forward to playing against the French at home in Dublin.’’

Hickie added: ‘‘I was disappointed to have had to miss the Italian match in Rome last week, but the selectors naturally couldn’t take any chances.

‘‘But now that I have completely recovered from my hand injury I’m relishing the challenge.‘‘
