A man has died in a Co Galway workplace accident today.

A man has died in a Co Galway workplace accident today.

The incident happened at a stone quarry at Ballymacken, Ardrahan around 8am this morning when, it is believed, a lorry rolled back on top of the man.

It is understood the man, who was aged in his 50s, died at the scene.

The local area is said to be in shock at the tragic death of the man, who was well-known in the community.

The man’s remains will be removed this evening to the Morgue at Galway University Hospital where a post mortem will take place.

The Health and Safety Authority has been notified.
