The number of people signing on this month was 100 down on last month, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The number of people signing on this month was 100 down on last month, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The seasonally-adjusted total decreased from 156,800 in May to 156,700 in June, compared to an increase of 2,600 in May.

In the year to June 2005, there was an unadjusted decrease of 9,652 (-5.7%). This compares with an unadjusted decrease of 11,146 (-6.9%) in the year to May 2005.

The standardised unemployment rate in June was 4.2%, the same as in January, based on the Quarterly National Household Survey.

In the month, the estimated number of casual and part-time workers on the Live Register was 8,143 males and 12,571 females.

The Live Register is not designed to measure unemployment. It includes part-time workers (those who work up to three days a week), seasonal and casual workers entitled to social welfare payments.

Unemployment is measured by the Quarterly National Household Survey. The latest seasonally-adjusted figure, for December to February 2005, is 84,700 persons unemployed.
