US soldier killed by suicide car bomb in Iraq

A suicide car bomb killed a US soldier today at a checkpoint outside Baghdad’s highly fortified Green Zone, where Iraq’s parliament and the US Embassy are located.

A suicide car bomb killed a US soldier today at a checkpoint outside Baghdad’s highly fortified Green Zone, where Iraq’s parliament and the US Embassy are located.

An Iraqi army soldier, an interpreter and an Iraqi civilian were wounded in the attack, the military said.

The name of the US soldier was being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The death brought to 1,954 the number of US service members who have died since the beginning of the US-led invasion of Iraq in March 2003.
