Hala Bek to miss rest of season

Hala Bek, a close but unlucky fourth behind Sir Percy in the Vodafone Derby, will not run again this season.

He looked to have a winning chance in the Epsom Classic only to swerve badly right in the closing stages on what was just his second start in public.

He was then being prepared for the Budweiser Irish Derby only to be ruled out of the Curragh Classic with a throat infection.

The son of Halling had recovered from the setback and was back cantering in Newmarket last month with connections considering a possible tilt at the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

Trainer Michael Jarvis said: “He won’t run again this year. We’ve run out of time and things are just not quite right.”
