New Meath manager Colm Coyle has said he would have no problem welcoming his former team-mates Darren Fay and Trevor Giles back into the inter-county fold.
Both Fay and Giles, who won an All-Ireland alongside Coyle in 1996 and who have been absent from the Meath ranks since last year, have continued playing with their respective clubs - Trim and Skryne.
A return for the 30-something pair could be just the tonic for Coyle as he prepares the Royals for life in Division Two of the National League.
"I would like to think that Darren and Trevor might return," he said. "They are both young enough and they've something to offer.
"If you look at the top 15 club players in Meath, performance-wise, the two boys would be right up there.
“It’s a big commitment, both of them have their own businesses, they mightn't have the time. Lets just say the door will be open for them," he added.
"The same goes for anybody. I’m just looking for the top 30 players in the county. I'll pick whoever wants to play for Meath if their good enough."
Speaking to the Meath Chronicle, the former county star admitted that wrestling the Leinster title away from Dublin would be a big ask for his side next year.
"Leinster is going to be very hard to win, Dublin are that step ahead of everybody else at the moment - they are very strong, they dominated Leinster this year," conceded Coyle.
"It's going to be a big ask for Meath, but there's no better team than Meath to be the ones to challenge them.
"I think the squad of players is there if we can rally the troops properly. We can't be blaming management either. Everybody has to pull together for the common cause, that's how success came in the past."
It has been five years since Meath's last Leinster championship triumph. The Royals have been widely regarded as football's sleeping giants since Graham Geraghty captained them to All-Ireland glory back in 1999.
