Levera will not take his chance in the VC Bet Challenge Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.
Alan King’s three-year-old created a big impression in racking up an impressive hat-trick at the beginning of the year before finishing last in a rough renewal of the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Having given their charge time to get over that run, connections had been considering bringing him back to the track for this weekend’s £90,000 (€133,000) attraction.
However, while King reports the colt to be in good order, he feels he may just be past his best for the year and has therefore elected to save him for a four-year-old campaign.
“Levera doesn’t run at the weekend and he’ll be roughed off for the season but he’ll be back next year,” he confirmed.
“He’s okay but he’s just sort of gone in his coat really so I thought there was no point in going for a Group Two when we think he’s just gone past his best.
“We’ll leave him for next year and we’ll just see how things go.”
