Longford Town 2 Cork City 1

Danny O’Connor hit a stunning late winner as Longford came from behind to knock out last season’s beaten finalists and eircom League champions Cork.

John O’Flynn brought a dour game to life when his 25-yard shot squirmed under the body of Town keeper Shay Kelly to give Cork a 72nd minute lead.

But Dessie Baker levelled from a 79th minute penalty after Cork keeper Michael Devine was sent off for pulling down Mark Rooney.

O’Connor then struck a terrific winner on 87 minutes when connecting from 30 yards after Alan Murphy’s corner was cleared to him.
