Proceedings initiated against Socialist party members

Socialist Deputy Joe Higgins and his party colleague Councillor Clare Daly have been issued with writs for contempt of court.

Socialist Deputy Joe Higgins and his party colleague Councillor Clare Daly have been issued with writs for contempt of court.

Both have been ordered to appear on Friday after Fingal County Council was granted an injunction against anti-bin tax campaigners from blocking refuse lorries.

The local authority applied for the injunction after some vehicles were stopped during their rounds last week, by protestors who are against paying the charge.

Speaking outside the court today, Clare Daly said the ruling ignores the reality facing householders.
